When is the Best Time to get Your Carpets Professionally Cleaned?

carpet cleaning services in Minneapolis

Wonder when is the best time to get your carpets professionally cleaned? As professional carpet cleaners and commercial and residential cleaners we get asked that question a lot. Hiring a professional to come out and clean your carpets isn’t something you do more than once or twice a year, so it’s good to know when the best time is to do it.

Of course you want to have your carpets professionally cleaned if you’re going to do any formal entertaining. Weddings are a perfect example. If you’re going to sell your home, you want to have the carpets professionally cleaned. But what about just regular carpet cleaning?

Once or twice a year is optimum depending on how dirty your carpets get.

Do you have children? Do you have pets? Do you have smokers in the house? Then your carpets are going to need more cleaning than someone who doesn’t have that kind of wear and tear on their carpets. For a couple with no children or pets and no smokers once a year carpet cleaning is sufficient.

If you have children and/or pets, you’re probably going to want to get your carpets cleaned once or twice a year.

If you have a smoker or someone with allergies in the home you’ll want to do it more frequently.

So, when is the best time to get your carpets professionally cleaned?

Generally, the best time clean your carpets is late fall. By steam cleaning the carpets in late fall you’ll remove any allergens that have settled into the carpet and you’ll have clean carpets for any holiday entertaining.

Spring isn’t usually the best time because that’s when it’s muddy outside and people are tracking in all that dirt and muck from outside.

How to Remove Red Wine Stains from the Carpet

Minneapolis professional cleaners

As a carpet cleaning company in Minneapolis, we get asked frequently how to remove red wine stains from the carpet. We’ve all done it – spilled wine, grape juice or other dark liquids on the carpet and getting it out isn’t always that easy. Of course the sooner you attend to the stain the better your chances are of getting the stain out completely.

You don’t want to call a cleaning service just for one little stain, so here is how we get the stains out of our own carpets, without having to use the big machinery.

How to Remove Red Wine Stains from the Carpet

  1. Blot the stain – The sooner you start blotting the stain the better your odds are that the stain will come out. Use a dry cloth, preferably one you don’t mind staining. Fold it over several times so it is fairly thick and start blotting it by putting pressure on it. You can step on it or press the cloth into the carpet with your hands. When the cloth is saturated get a new cloth or you’ll start putting the liquid back into the carpet.
  2. Flush the stain – After removing as much wine from the carpet as possible by blotting, it’s time to flush the stain with water. You can also use club soda if you have any on hand. Flush the stain and blot again until you get as much of the moisture out as possible.
  3. Salt/Baking Soda – If the stain still remains you can sprinkle salt into the stain and wait for it to soak up what is left of the wine. You can also make a paste of one part baking soda to 3 parts water and massage into the stain. Wait for the paste to dry – 1-3 days depending on the humidity, and then vacuum up the dried paste.

This process should remove the stain if it was caught right away. Or it should remove enough of the stain so it isn’t so noticeable and can be cleaned by a professional when they come to do your annual carpet cleaning.
